Do you have a covering?

Thursday, 14th December
Psalms 140:7

O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation,
You have covered my head in the day of battle.

A covering shields you from harm during a battle. Note, covering implies an authority figure over you. The authority figure shields your affairs. Your number one covering is your subjection to God, His Word, and the Holy Spirit. Humility and submission are non-negotiable in contending with the enemy. Rebellion towards spiritual authority puts you at a big risk in this battle. You cannot win when your head is uncovered. There is no other way around it. You need a covering over your head.

If God emphasizes the need for a covering in the day of battle, then it is deception to think otherwise. You may be wondering which battle you are fighting. There is a devil out there whose primary purpose is to resist every move you make towards progress and to frustrate the plan of God over your life. He does this by bombarding your mind with questions and lies to invalidate the truth of God’s word. At such times, the words of David in Psalm 140:7 becomes worthy of note. David had a knowledge about God, but he did not stop there. He acknowledged Him as his Lord. That means, he deferred to His authority.

God works with authority structure. Your submission to His authority structure is your greatest defense in the battles of life. 1Corinthians 11:3 confirms this truth, it says “the head of every man is Christ, the head of every woman is man and the head of Christ is God.” Stated differently, Christ is the covering of protection over the head of the man and man is the covering of protection over the head of his wife. In like manner, your Pastor in your local church is a spiritual covering over your head.

When you struggle with obeying God’s word, you sabotage your protection. As a wife, your attitude of constantly demeaning your husband sabotages your protection. Also, rebellion towards the authority of your spiritual leader, sabotages your covering. Beloved, accept and submit to God’s authority structure over you today. It is your stronghold of defense.

Lord I acknowledge and submit to your authority over my life. And I repent of every act of rebellion.
